pirates run afoul of the law after the eighty=foot sloop runs aground in pacifica. kron four is there the three suspects are brought to shore. at this hour, we are learning more about the three suspects. this, as crews scramble to try and save the yacht. i'm pam moore -- terisa estacio is live in pacifica -- what is the status of the yacht? >> reporter: you can see here from this video taken from our helicopter partnerhsip abc seven news the three suspects stranded on the yacht - after it got stuck out in a sand bar. initially - coast guard officials say the three refused to cooperate but then after they learned the yacht had been stolen. officials armed with guns used megaphones ordering the three to stand down as they boarded the vessel to take them into custody. watch as one by one, rescue teams pluck them off and bring them to shore on jet skis. each person was arrested on suspicion of a stolen boat. and taken to the pacific police department for questioning. jeff wadkins was on one of the divers who helped bring

-54 year old dario mira -56 year old lisa modawell that was stolen in the north bay. charles clifford shows us the path. >> reporter: this was called the darling taken from the sausalito yacht club. let me show you on google earth what happened next. we do not know exactly what happened next but they would of had to of gotten a south- west underneath the golden gate. and then south to travel at least 14 mi. past san francisco to this city of pacifica. witnesses say that it had run aground at linden mar this was just offshore from the taco bell. the interior

booze, with a dvd player, air-conditioning. it is a beautiful vessel. . >> pam: a san francisco man gunned down while walking his young nephew to school this morning. it happened just before 8:30 in the morning at the corner of third and palou, in the city's bayview district. police say the victim. dominic scott. was shot multiple times. the seven - year old boy with him was *not hurt. right now, a suspect is behind bars. one man waiting at a nearby bus stop, who didn't want to appear on camera, describes what he heard. >> i heard some shots back rain out. i did not know exactly where there were coming from. >> reporter: how many? >> 6-8. someone else but was close by saw the person and they provided a description. the police to tell the

description. >> pam: a handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in the wheel well of a car, near where the suspect was apprehended. after a brief foot chase. muni service in the area was disrupted for part of the day. >> pam: a rare homicide, in a normally quet silicon valley suburb. this was the scene in campbell, overnight. a teenager shot to death. right now, we know the victim is richard vega. he was hit multiple times. today -- kron4 talked to a neighbor who describes the scary aftermath. >> in the middle of the night i heard two gunshots i thought there were fireworks. because we have fireworks around here. after i heard the cracks at somebody said help me and it sounded pretty bad. i looked out my door and i saw this guy walking down the sidewalk and he was covered with blood".side of his body." >> pam: police say. a dark

colored sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting this is campbell's first homicide since 2007. >> the memorial for murdered santa cruz officers -- detective sergeant loran "butch" baker. and detective elizabeth butler-- is scheduled for this thursday. you'll be able to watch that tribute live on kron-4. the service will be held at the h-p pavillion --- the only venue which organizers say, is big enough to fit the large number of people expected to attend. the memorial will be held on march seventh. at noon. a two- mile long motorcade procession will make its way from santa cruz beach. to the h-p pavilion that morning. again -- we will air the service live on kron 4's 24-7 bay area news channel -- comcast 193, or digital channel 4.2. >> since those santa cruz detectives were fatally shot last tuesday.five suspects have been killed in officer

involved shootings throughout the bay area. we'll break it down for you. last thursday night in guerneville.a kidnapping suspect was killed after a high speed chase. a sonoma county deputy pulled the trigger after he says the suspect refused to keep his hands outside the car window, and reached to his right. that suspect did not have a weapon. >> early saturday.daly city police shot a man they chased into san francisco. the suspect was wanted for stealing a car.and police say they fired after the suspect waived a gun at them during and after the chase. saturday afternoon san jose police killed a suspect who polcie say did not stop when officers tried to pull him over, then rammed a police cruiser, which led to a high speed chase.

police eventually cornered the suspect, and two officers shot him after they say he made a threatening motion. late saturday night in union city.two officers killed a man who they say he pointed a gun at them. police say the suspect ran after being pulled over.and that the suspect's gun was loaded. finally early sunday morning.a hayward police officer shot a man who officials say hit the officer's cruiser during a traffic stop. that makes five officer involved shootings since thursday night,,, and four in just over 24 hours - saturday into sunday. >> pam: right now -- kron4 is tracking a storm headed to the bay area. you're looking live from our cameras in san francisco -- i'm here in the weather center with jacqueline bennet. >> jacqueline: this system is moving into the bay area tomorrow. futurecast with increasing clouds. the rain

and her parents. court papers list anthony as unemployed, with no recent income. this is her first public appearance since she was acquitted in 2011. of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, caylee. >> new tonight -- we are getting our first look at a massive florida sinkhole -- that swallowed a man in his home last week. take a look -- here is it -- about two dozen feet wide, estimated at 50-feet deep -- and it could potentially crews today -- excavating the area with large machines -- a delicate process, trying not to cause anything to collapse. we are also learning tonight, workers say they will *not be able to recover the body of the man who died. which as emily smchidt reports -- that makes it all

the more painful for the family. >> reporter: in seffner florida, even this huge sinkhole is smaller than the void jeremy bush feels in his family. >> it's hard to see the hole. that's the hole i was in trying to get my brother out. >> reporter: bush's brother jeff was in his bed thursday night--as the room started to collapse into a sinkhole. >> i just heard a big large noise like a train came through the house, then we all ran towards the room and we all almost fell in the hole. >> reporter: jeremy bush jumped into the hole, but couldn't save his 36-year- old brother. neither could rescuers. now, the search is over as the focus turns to keeping everyone else safe. that means demolishing a family's home. >> so hopefully today we will have the blue house down to the ground and we'll have a better understanding of the size of the sinkhole.

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: it is the first monday since forced government budget cuts took effect. and after months of doom and gloom warnings. people are bracing for the punch. catherine heenan is here with the details. >> catherine: so the forced cuts are now official. but it's clear that a lot of the impact just isn't being felt yet. 85 billion dollars is essentially being cut from the federal budget - over the next 7 months. but so far -- there hasn't been a lot of drama. the president sat down for what he said was his 17th

meeting with his cabinet. some critics suggest he's been over-hyping the immediate impact of forced budget cuts. this first monday since the sequester took effect.didn't seem much different from the day before. in any event - the president sounds frustrated. >> i think everybody knows where i stand on this situation. we are going to try to minimize the impact about deficit reduction." >> catherine: it didn't help that the secretary of education now admits he was mistaken in saying many teachers have already received pink slips. >> i would like to apologize for last week. >> catherine: most travelers have not noticed big changes at the airport yet. but the homeland security secretary is talking about longer lines. >> "specifically -- where? >> uh. let's see, i wanna i want to say

atlanta." in terms of visible impact - yellowstone park is delaying its opening because of the federal cuts. still looming - the white house is stressing jobs. >> we will lose three- quarters of a million jobs if this stays in place. >> catherine: now.republicans controlling the house are working on a huge spending bill that would fund day-to-day federal operations through september. and head off a potential government shutdown later this month. house republicans want to give the pentagon more money for military readiness. they also want to largely exempt agencies like the fbi and border patrol. >> a gun shop in new hampshire is raising some eyebrows with this poster in the window. calling president obama the firearms salesman of the year. the store owner says the white house push for tighter gun control laws more than tripled his business. behind the latest boom in gun sales are some long=term trends that might surprise you: despite the long lines at

gun shows, fewer and fewer americans say they own firearms. in 1977, more than half of american households reported owning guns. by 2010, that number was down to less than one=third. surprising statistic number two: violent crime is down. way down: the fbi says nationwide, murders, assaults and rapes dropped 50 percent between 1992 and 2011. and no one seems to agree on an explanation. some researchers say it's because technology has made policing more effective. gibbs badothers point to the declone in crack cocaine use. or the rise in legalized abortions. one theory gives the credit to the ban on leaded gasoline. studies have shown that lead in the environment can cause behavioral problems in children. whatever the reason, americans have noticed the difference. in 1994, more than half of americans said crime was the country's most important problem. now it's less than two percent.

forces on the table. >> catherine: biden is also cautioning against acting too hastily. saying every other option has to be exhausted before there's serious talk about military intervention. a toddler in mississippi is the first child to be "functionally cured" of h-i- v. >> pam: researchers from johns hopkins announced the news on sunday. andrew spencer explains what this means. and the impact this medical breakthrough may have on pediatric aids research. >> reporter: the girl was born in mississippi to an h- i-v positive mother who had no prenatal care. within thirty hours of her birth, doctor hannah gay, a pediatric h-i-v specialist, gave the infant relatively high doses of three anti- viral drugs. >> "i drew tests just as they started those drugs, and two different types of tests showed me within the next couple of days that the baby was already infected." >> reporter: the child remained on the drug regimen for some 15-months. then

now for today's market update. stocks ended higher on wall street today-- pushing the dow near its record high. the market overcame an early loss. caused by new steps by china to rein in its booming housing market. the dow closed up 38- points at 14-thousand- 127-- that's just 37- points shy of its all-time high reached in october 2007. the nasdaq rose 12- points. to close 3- thousand- 182. and the s-and-p rose seven- points to at close at one- thousand- 525. >> this is the largest

the suspects have been identified as. 63 year old, leslie gardner. 54 year old dario mira. and 56 year old lisa modawell >> reporter: the yacht, which is called the darling was apparently stolen from the sausalito yacht harbor, which is here about 4 miles north of san francisco. let's take a closer look using google earth, now we don't know exactly when the boat was taken, but the thieves would have had to have sailed it south and then west undernearth the golden gate bridge. from there they would have turned south again and travelled at least 14 miles.. past san francisco to the city of pacifica. around 518 monday morning, witnesses reported that the yacht had run aground... here...at linda mar beach in pacifica. as of monday eveing, darling is still stuck in the sand inside the break water, about 100 yards from this parking lot. if your familiar with the area, this is just off shore from the taco bell. now the yacht has an interior cabin, and authorities are saying that three people were on board.
